What is this PAS about?

PAS 1192-5 specifies requirements for the implementation of cyber-security-minded Building Information Modelling (BIM) throughout the construction process.

Alongside PAS 1192-3, BS 1192-4:2014 and PAS 1192-6 it is also one of the seven key products which the Government has mandated companies to use in order to qualify as working to Level 2 BIM, which makes companies eligible to tender for government contracts.

Who is this PAS for?

  • Employers within a BIM project
  • Asset owners
  • Designers
  • Contractors
  • Operations and maintenance service providers
  • Software suppliers
  • Architects and surveyors
  • Contractors and subcontractors
  • Software vendors
  • Academics
  • Trade associations (e.g. RIBA, RICS, ICE, CIOB, CIAT, ICE Surveyors, UK Contractors Group)
  • Facilities managers

Why should you use this PAS?

Building Information Modelling (BIM) involves data sharing and its transparent nature presents a potential opportunity for hostile forces. In response the entire construction and operations supply chain needs to employ a security-minded approach and communicate in a cyber-security conscious way which both enables business to function and minimizes the value of information being shared for hostile reconnaissance purposes.

This PAS outlines the cyber-security vulnerabilities to hostile attack when using BIM and provides an assessment process to determine the levels of cyber-security for BIM collaboration which should be applied during all phases of the site and building lifecycle.

It explains the need for, and application of, trustworthiness and security controls throughout a built asset’s lifecycle (including the full BIM project lifecycle) to deliver an holistic approach. The PAS addresses the steps required to create and cultivate an appropriate security mind set and secure culture within an organization, including the need to monitor and audit compliance.
