What is ISO 717-2 about?
Description

ISO 717-2 specifies:

Single number quantities for impact sound insulation in buildings and of building elements

Rules for determining these quantities from the results of measurements carried out in one-third-octave or octave bands for field measurements only

Procedure for evaluating the weighted reduction in impact sound pressure level by floor coverings on lightweight floors

Single-number quantities for the impact sound reduction of floor coverings and floating floors were calculated from the results of measurements

Note: ISO 717-2 applies to single-number quantities that are used for rating impact sound insulation and for simplifying the formulation of acoustical requirements in building codes

Who is ISO 717-2 for?

ISO 717-2 on impact sound insulation is useful for:

  • Construction companies
  • Builders
  • Civil engineers
  • Acousticians
  • Architects

Why should you use ISO 717-2?

While designing a building it is necessary to deal with issues regarding impact sound insulation to have better sound-insulated buildings.

ISO 717-2 provides a standardized method whereby the frequency-dependent value of impact sound insulation can be converted into a single number characterizing the acoustical performance.

ISO 717-2 reduces impact sounds while designing a building thus, preventing the building from getting deteriorated.

ISO 717-2 reduces noise and sound disturbances which can cause long-term repercussions in terms of health of the occupants in the building.

ISO 717-2 provides assistance to measure impact sound insulation for determining quantities that are carried in one-third-octave or octave bands.

Adopt ISO 717-2 to ensure optimal airborne sound insulation in buildings and building elements that can limit the extent of vibration and improve noise control performance.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 717-2:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 717-2:2013 which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 717-2:2020 has been technically revised with the following change:

A new Annex D with a method for rating heavy/soft impact sound insulation using an A-weighted maximum impact sound pressure level
