BS EN ISO 6892-1:2019
Metallic materials. Tensile testing. Method of test at room temperature
What is this standard about?
This is the first in a four-part series of international standards dealing with the tensile testing of metals. This part covers testing at room temperature. Parts 2, 3 and 4 cover testing at elevated temperature, at low temperature and in liquid helium respectively.
Who is this standard for?
- Precision engineering companies
- Companies offering manufacturing solutions to aerospace, the oil & gas industry and water companies
- Metal casting companies
- Industrial testing companies
- Steel manufacturers
- Piping producers
Why should you use this standard?
It specifies the method for tensile testing of metallic materials and defines the mechanical properties which can be determined at room temperature. Annex A contains further recommendations for computer controlled testing machines.
Two methods of testing speeds are available. The first, method A, is based on strain rates (including crosshead separation rate) and the second, method B, is based on stress rates.
Method A is intended to minimize the variation of the test rates during the moment when strain rate sensitive parameters are determined and to minimize the measurement uncertainty of the test results. Therefore, and out of the fact that often the strain rate sensitivity of the materials is not known, the use of method A is strongly recommended.
What's changed since the last update?
The following changes were made:
